Celebrating the 70th anniversary of Porsche sports cars and enjoying the fun of extreme sports cars Porsche Sportscar Together Day unfolds in China
Shanghai. Porsche is inviting fans from across the globe to participate in “Sportscar Together Day” as it celebrates 70 years of creating the world’s most loved sports car. Beginning from June 8, Porsche China kicks off a three-day Sportscar Together Day event at the Porsche Experience Centre Shanghai as the first of a series events to be hosted worldwide.

On June 8, 1948, the legendary first Porsche prototype 356-001 received its general operating permit, marking the birth of the Porsche brand and the realization of Ferry Porsche’s dream of creating the perfect sports car. During Sportscar Together Day, Porsche China will showcase Porsche’s groundbreaking achievements and delve into its classic brand heritage, showing how confidence and courage has helped shape the future of sports cars.
The June 8 celebration is focusing on the“70 + 1” storyline, narrating the success of Porsche over the past 70 years.
It’s a story about a dream chaser. Ferry Porsche inherited his passion and perseverance for sports cars from his father Ferdinand Porsche, which he then used to create the Porsche brand. His family spirit carries on and continues to inspire the descendants of the Porsche family and all Porsche employees, who continue to devote themselves to building the future of sports cars.
It’s a story about rich history. From the first Porsche 356 “No.1” Roadster to the game-changing Porsche 911 to the current Porsche models that enjoy widespread popularity around the world today, Porsche has redefined sports cars by building vehicles that are born on the track and enjoyed on roads everywhere. Even now, Ferry Porsche’s vision is leading the development of global sports cars.
It’s also a story about a passionate community. Porsche is not only a sports car brand, but the source of a unique sports car culture that connects passionate and loyal sports car fans who are drawn together by the pure driving pleasure of Porsche vehicles and the thrill of motorsport.
Finally, it’s a story of defining the future. The production version of Porsche Mission E will be launched in 2019, heralding in a new era of Porsche sports cars as the brand continually pursues advancements in electrification, digitization and connectivity.
“70 Years Porsche Sportscar” anniversary celebration
The sports car manufacturer is celebrating its 70th anniversary with numerous activities around the world throughout 2018. In Germany, the first round of a special “70 Years of Porsche Sports Cars” exhibition was held from March 20 to May 31 at the “Drive. Volkswagen Group Forum” in Berlin. On June 8, the opening ceremony of the “70 Years of Porsche Sports Cars” exhibition was held at the Porsche Museum. On June 9, Porsche is inviting fans to participate in “Sportscar Together Day” at all of its sites around the world. On June 10, Porsche will host a grand celebration at the Cannstatter Wasen festival grounds. Throughout the weekend on June 16-17, Porsche will welcome staff, Zuffenhausen residents and fans for a public celebration at their production plant based in Porscheplatz in Zuffenhausen. The festival will include interactive activities for visitors both young and old, short plant tours, bands, food trucks, live coverage of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and a broadcast of the World Cup game between Germany and Mexico. Admission to the museum and all events is free of charge over the weekend.
The “Festival of Speed” held on July 12–15 at the Goodwood race track in the UK, and the “Rennsport Reunion” in California on September 27–30 will also mark the anniversary. The anniversary celebrations will conclude with the “Sound Night” event to be held for the first time in the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart on October 13.
On April 26, the Porsche anniversary celebration campaign was launched with the inauguration of Shanghai Porsche Experience Centre. In addition to the Sportscar Together Day event on June 8-10, Porsche will appear at a series of classic rally events with a rare line-up of cars in September. Between October and December Porsche 356 “No.1” Roadster China tour will be held in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing.
Porsche is poised for the next 70 years
70 years of Porsche sports cars is not only a memorable history, but also indicates a better future. The future of Porsche cars has been unveiled, as the first all-electric Mission E concept will be put into series production in 2019. This four-door concept with four independent seats combines Porsche‘s unique emotional design, outstanding driving performance and forward-looking everyday practicality. With system output power of over 440 kW (600 hp) and a driving range of over 500km, it finishes 0-100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds, and can get 80% power capacity after being charged for around 15 minutes.
The development of Porsche Mission E derivatives is also showing smooth progress, with the Mission E Cross Turismo concept car was displayed at 2018 Geneva Motor Show and Beijing Auto Show. As a pure electric cross-over utility vehicle (CUV) concept, the Mission E Cross Turismo boasts an output power of over 440kw (600hp), a driving range of more than 500km. It can reach 0-100km/h in less than 3.5 seconds, and can run 100km after being charged for just 4 minutes.
